These sweet slow cooker spiced apples taste just like homemade apple pie filling! These apples are cooked with maple syrup, apple pie spice, orange zest, apple cider (or apple juice), butter, and bit of corn starch (to thicken the juices), making a sweet holiday dessert that is so easy!
In a large crockpot, add sliced apples, fresh orange zest, maple syrup, apple pie spice, ground cinnamon, apple cider, butter, and cornstarch.
Stir the mixture until combined.
Cook on low for 3 - 3 1/2 hours, or until the apples have softened and the sauce has thickened, stirring once or twice while it’s cooking.
Serve the spiced apples immediately, or turn the slow cooker to the ‘warm’ setting until ready to serve.
*You can peel the apples or leave the peels on.
**You can substitute 1/3 cup honey, 1/3 cup brown sugar, or 1/3 cup granulated sugar in place of the maple syrup, if preferred.
***Additionally, you can add more sweetener to the apples if you don’t feel like they’re not sweet enough.
