Ingredients
Spiced Apples
  • 7 large apples, sliced* (use a sweet apple, such as a honeycrisp)
  • 1 Tbsp orange zest, about the zest of 1 large orange
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup**
  • 1 tsp apple pie spice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup apple cider or apple juice
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, cubed and cold
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp cornstarch
Toppings
  • Whipped cream
  • Ice cream
  • Caramel sauce
Instructions
  1. In a large crockpot, add sliced apples, fresh orange zest, maple syrup, apple pie spice, ground cinnamon, apple cider, butter, and cornstarch.

  2. Stir the mixture until combined.

  3. Cook on low for 3 - 3 1/2 hours, or until the apples have softened and the sauce has thickened, stirring once or twice while it’s cooking.

  4. Serve the spiced apples immediately, or turn the slow cooker to the ‘warm’ setting until ready to serve.

  5. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes

*You can peel the apples or leave the peels on.

**You can substitute 1/3 cup honey, 1/3 cup brown sugar, or 1/3 cup granulated sugar in place of the maple syrup, if preferred.

***Additionally, you can add more sweetener to the apples if you don’t feel like they’re not sweet enough.
