These chewy molasses sugar cookies are one of my favorite Christmas cookie recipes! They are rich, chewy, and have just a hint of spice to make them perfect for the holidays! Homemade molasses cookies are the best Christmas dessert or edible Christmas gift!

  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 cup sugar, for rolling
  1. With a standing mixer or hand mixer, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together, until light and fluffy.

  2. Add in the molasses and the egg, and beat it until well combined.

  3. Add in flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Mix until combined.

  4. Chill dough for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Roll dough into about 1 1/2" balls, and roll in sugar. Place 2" apart on the baking sheet, and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until tops have cracked and the cookies are set.
